Adorables

Adorables is a cute little sports game that is best suited for young children.

TL;DR at bottom

Gameplay:

The gameplay in Adorables is not extremely varied, and entirely consists of you launching your little creatures at a ball or towards enemy Adorables. This gameplay is pretty boring overall, and there is no excitement in attempting the different gamemodes that are available for you to play. They vary slightly between each other, but the overall experience is exactly the same -- boring. This kind of gameplay (and the layout of the game of the whole) is clearly designed for children, or at least it really seems to be that way. This doesn’t make it an inherently bad game, but it is not enjoyable for the general audience that is present on Steam.

2/10

Graphics:

The graphics are pretty decent, and they are pretty typical of a mobile game like this one (I’m assuming this is a mobile port to PC, since it is available mobile devices). The Adorables do live up to their name, and there is a surprising amount of customization available for their bodies, eyes, and mouths, which I really appreciate. There is definitely some copyright infringement going on in there somewhere, but we’ll just pretend it isn’t there so the kids can play as their favorite superheroes. There isn’t any fantastical about the graphics or environments overall, but they do well in presentation and are nice to look at.

6/10

Music/Audio:

Audio design is severely lacking in this game. There are very few sound effects during gameplay, and the lack of sound effects is also accompanied by a lack of music which makes playing a very boring experience. Some levels/gamemodes have music or ambience that corresponds with the theme of the environment, but it is not present in all of them. The music on the main menu and level select screens is decent, but it clearly missing during gameplay. One of the biggest things I noticed was during the Mummy gamemode; the mummies growl is very loud and very annoying, especially since there is not much else happening in the level, sound-wise. Overall, music and audio is something that could have used some work.

3/10

Conclusion:

Adorables would be a good game for children. The cute creatures and art style would certainly be appealing to youth, and I can appreciate the work that went into designing the art for the game. The gameplay is relatively flat and unvaried, but there are at least different game modes that you can experiment with to keep you entertained. The audio aspect of the game is sorely lacking and needs work, but it will have to do. If you’re looking for a game to keep your kid occupied on the computer, this is a great choice. Other than that, I suggest you look somewhere else.

Overall: 3.5/10 - Not Recommended
